We visited the Birmingham Botanical Gardens today. Even though it is getting colder there were still flowers and tons of fall leaves. The gardens were really nice and I can't even imagine how beautiful they are in the spring.

The Atlanta Skyline

The Biltmore Estate

This is a picture of the Biltmore House from the Statue of Diana high on the hill. This view is incredible and I love the mountains in the background.

Tonight we visited the Biltmore Estate for their Candlelight Celebration. This is a picture of the trees they put up outside near the fountain. The inside of the house was incredible with all the Christmas decorations.

Oak Lined Drive to Wormsloe

This oak lined drive leads to Wormsloe State Historic Site in Savannah. This reminded me of Oak Alley in Louisiana but with quite a few more trees. Oak Alley has 28 oaks and Wormsloe has over 400 oaks. It is truly a site to behold.

Graves: Colonial Park Cemetery

Today while touring the historic area of Savannah we ventured into Colonial Park Cemetery. These graves are actually partially buried, they have been covered up to block the entrance.

Angel Peak

On our way this morning we made a stop at Angel Peak Scenic Area. It was the perfect time - the sun was just rising above the horizon. It was a beautiful morning.

Reflections

I was at the Farmington Public Library today and I was sitting near this bronze statue called Reflections by Steve Myers. I took a bunch of pictures but I liked this angle the best.

Crow Canyon

Today we took a fantastic drive. Twenty miles on a semi maintained dirt road over two bridges and through a wash to Crow Canyon to see some petroglyphs. We walked along the canyon walls enjoying the drawings and when we reached the end this was our view.

Ruins in Aztec New Mexico

While in the Farmington area we drove up to Aztec, NM to see Aztec Ruins National Monument. We enjoyed the self guided tour and the history. Very much worth a visit.

Canyon de Chelly

We visited Canyon de Chelly today and took a private jeep tour with Canyon de Chelly Tours. Driving into the canyon gives you a better understanding of its history than you get from the rim views.

El Morro

We visited Inscription Rock at El Morro today. This was an incredible place and I loved walking around and on top of the rock.

Madonna of the Tree

While in Albuquerque today some friends took me go see this carving of the Cottonwood Madonna. It is carved into a tree behind San Felipe de Neri Church in Old Town.

Cosmos

Today we drove up to Salman Ranch to pick raspberries and once we were done we took a walk through their gardens. I came across this beautiful cosmos against the adobe wall.

Giant Sand Art

We were at the New Mexico State Fair today and we watched a guy work on this huge sand sculpture. It is being created by Sandscapes. I thought it was amazing.

My Daisy

Mills Canyon NM

This is a picture from the road as you are entering Mills Canyon. We had a great time driving down into the canyon and exploring the ruins of Orchard Ranch.

Mark Chavez Sculpture

I was at the Pueblo Montano Trail today and I took some time to enjoy and the chainsaw carvings of Mark Chavez. I think it is wonderful what they have done with an area that was the victim of a wildfire.

I love these Globemallow wildflowers. The color is nice and they always have mutliple blossoms. We have tons of these growing all around the house.

The Pink Adobe

I took an afternoon walk around the Capitol today and then headed down Old Santa Fe Trail to the Plaza. I passed The Pink Adobe and just was drawn to the colors of the flowers and writing.

The Sandias

We flew home today from our trip to Maine. This is a picture of the Sandia Mountains that are on the east side of Albuquerque. I love this view of them and was glad I got this picture.

Angel in Mt. Calvary

This beautiful angel is in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Manchester, NH. I liked this cemetery - it is full of wonderful trees and great old headstones.

Vermont State House

In Montpelier today we visited the Capitol Building. I really love this building and the town of Montpelier. As the smallest capital city in the U.S., it is both charming and beautiful.

Capitol Park View

While visiting the Maine State Capitol in Augusta we were able to step out onto a balcony that overlooked Capitol Park. It is a terrific view - I think I might have some trouble keeping focused if I worked here with that view.

Sailboat on Frenchman's Bay

We were on a boat tour of Frenchman's Bay this afternoon and in the distance was this beautiful sailboat. I thought it had a ghostly quality with the mist from the water.

Maine's Wild Blueberries

During our visit to Maine we saw wild blueberries all over the place. I was surprised to find that they were a bit smaller than the blueberries I normally see in the store. We also had our fair share of blueberries at almost every restaurant we ate at.

The Light at Marshall Point

We visited the Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, ME today. It is a beautiful place with fantastic views. Forrest Gump ran up this walkway to the light in the movie.

Walking Across the Androscoggin

We were in Brunswick, ME today and we visited the Brunswick Topsham Swinging Bridge. It is a beautiful bridge that crosses the Androscoggin River to connect Brunswick with Topsham for mill workers to get from their houses to the mill.

I saw this huge patch of Black-Eyed Susans and just loved them. The golden yellow color with the dark tops just stood out. Wonderful summer color.

The beginning of summer was pretty dry here in Santa Fe and our garden wasn't doing very well. But lately we have been having afternoon showers and our garden has really come to life. This is a picture of our Rose of Sharon bush.

I found these Gerber Daisies at the store the other day. I have never seen them so frilly. I think they are a form of gerber called spider daisies.

The Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway

Today we made a trip to Cedar Crest, NM. We decided to drive The Turquoise Trail. I love this road - it is much more scenic than taking the interstate. This view really grabbed my attention and yes I stood in the middle of the road to take the picture.

While out hiking I saw so much blue flax blooming all over them mountain. I really like the simplicity and delicacy of this wildflower.

I was at Museum Hill today. They were taking down all the tents and decorations from the Santa Fe International Folk Art Marke t. They always have such colorful things at the market.

We kayaked at Heron Lake this morning and then after we drove through Heron Lake State Park and El Vado State Park. This is a view from the road that goes around the lake.

Today we hiked the Las Conchas Trail in the Jemez Mountains. This is a shot of the Jemez River - I was standing on a bridge that crosses the river. This is an incredible hike. It is pretty flat and easy.

Today I was with my friend Diane in Carrizozo. We stopped by the Valley of Fires Recreation Area and I got a nice shot of some of the lava all around.

Today we visited the Jemez State Monument. We walked the Ruins Trail and I got this picture while exploring the ruins. This is a picture of the church tower looking through one of the windows.

While hiking at the Perea Nature Trail near San Ysidro we came across this little guy sunning himself on the trail. He didn't have a rattle so I wasn't too worried (but I still stayed a good distance away). I couldn't identify this snake so if anyone knows send me a note.

The Tram

Today we hiked in the Sandias and we ended up at the Sandia Crest. This is near the Sandia Peak Tram Upper Terminal. We had a nice view as the tram pulled into the terminal.

Western Blue Flag

This is a wild blue iris or a blue flag iris or a western blue flag. They grow in quite a few places in New Mexico. I got this picture near the Valles Caldera in the Jemez Mountains.

Our garden didn't do so well this year, I guess we didn't spend the time necessary. But we did manage to get these beautiful daylilies. At least we had a little color in the garden.

It Blooms Again

I bought two amaryllis bulbs for Christmas about five years ago. When the blooms died I cut the stems off and left just the leaves (I liked the way they looked). I never thought that the plants would bloom again but every year so far they have bloomed.

This year I guess we had enough snow and runoff because the Yuccas are blooming everywhere. This one is in the back of our house with a view of the mountains in the background.

This gate is near the Garden of the Gods pullout on the Turquoise Trail (NM 14). Beyond this gate is the Garden of the Gods Sculpture Center.

While walking around the Plaza today I passed this Wisteria plant. It was just starting to bloom and I loved the way this bloom was hanging all by itself. We have one of these plants in our yard but it hasn't bloomed yet.

Today I was visiting a few cemeteries. I was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Attleboro, MA. There was this beautiful, peaceful pond. I loved how all the foliage is reflected in the water.

Today while I was on a walk near the beach in Charlestown, Rhode Island I passed tons of these little plants - good thing I know what poison ivy looks like because it was all over the place and I could have gotten into tons of trouble.

Today I was out watering the yard and noticed all these butterflies in our cherry trees. So I took quite a few pictures. When I looked them up I found out they were call Painted Ladies.

My Amaryllis Blooms Again

About five years ago I bought two amaryllis bulbs. After they bloomed I was going to get rid of them, but I really liked the leaves so I kept them. Each year since them they have bloomed. I love it.

The Flower of a Peach

I got my camera back just in time for our trip to Louisiana. Today at the Audubon State Historic Site I took this picture of a turkey as it wandered around the place. I was enthralled with the colors on its head and neck.

A Change in Plans

Well, I guess you have noticed that I haven't posted a picture in a while. My camera has been giving me trouble. I was having difficulty getting focused pictures. For some reason the camera would only focus at certain distances. So I wasn't getting any good pictures. Then one day the lens started acting up. It would extend out but it wasn't consistent and sometimes it wouldn't extend all the way. And then it just got stuck and wouldn't do anything. I luckily had a warranty so I took it in and they are working on fixing it. But I have been out of a camera for about a week now and for a week before that I wasn't getting any good pictures. So since I don't have a camera I haven't been able to do my picture every day and I have made a decision. I won't be publishing a picture every day any more. The plans have changed and I will now just publish pictures when I feel I have a good one. Hopefully I will have the camera back in the next few days. I hope you will check back soon to see the pictures I am taking. Thanks!

We spent the day walking on the Molino Basin Trail and passed plenty of Jumping Chollas. Luckily we never got attacked. From a distance they kind of look fuzzy but up close it is an entirely different story.

I took a walk today in the railyard. The Santa Fe Southern Railroad train that goes between Santa Fe and Lamy was sitting at the depot. I liked the way it looked with the clouds and blue sky above it.
